At the "Park": Evan and another Elder
This photo shows Evan and another elder sitting in the "park." In the early 20th century, cemeteries were often used as public parks. It wasn't uncommon for families or friends to spend time in cemeteries, which were designed with beautiful landscaping and walking paths.
Evan is wearing a three-piece dark suit, collared shirt, and patterned tie, with a pocket watch chain visible across his vest. He leans back against a stone grave monument, looking directly toward the camera with a quiet, contemplative expression.
Both elders are seated directly on the low stone base or curb surrounding a large grave marker prominently engraved with the family name WILBAR at its base.
This is Plain Cemetery, in Taunton, Bristol County, Massachusetts. You can see the Google Street View of the actual headstone. Fun fact: while obviously Evan had no idea what his future would hold, this is the headstone of Joseph Wilbar, who is Bessie Call's third cousin, three times removed.
