Harvard University
This photo was taken inside Harvard Yard on the main campus of Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
On the far left is Matthews Hall, the distinctive High Victorian Gothic dormitory completed in 1872, featuring ornate roof dormers and stone detailing. In the center is University Hall. It is a light-colored Federal-style granite building designed by Charles Bulfinch and completed in 1815. On the far-right edge is Weld Hall, a red-brick Victorian Gothic dormitory built in 1872.
Evan and the other missionary are standing in the grassy expanse of the Old Yard, facing south toward Massachusetts Avenue. Notice the wooden boardwalk track laid on the ground behind them, which Harvard historically used to protect the lawns during muddy spring thaws.
