Christmas at Town Green
Christmas at Town Green
This photo is in Taunton, Massachusetts, at the Town Green (9 Court Street).
To the right is the Taunton Soldiers and Sailors Monument. Created by sculptor Carl Conrads and produced by New England Granite Works, the granite figure depicts a young Union soldier standing at attention with his rifle. Dedicated on June 4, 1902, it honors the roughly 1,700 men from Taunton who served in the American Civil War.
Behind the monument is the historic 1889 red brick commercial building on the square that famously housed an F. W. Woolworth Co. 5 and 10 Cent Store (partially visible in the background signage).
You can see the central circle (and now a fountain) as well as the statue as it appears today in this Google Street View.
